Né le 22 Octobre 1968 à Kingston en Jamaique, Orville Richard Burrell est plutôt connu sous le surnom Shaggy. Il est l'un des rares qui ont décidément mis le Reggae de New York sur la carte du monde. Après avoir passé 17 ans en Jamaique le pays de Bob Marley, Shaggy va aux Etas Unis où il s'engage dans l'armée. Ce brillant soldat devient Marines de l'armée américaine á 19 ans et est envoyé combattre á la guerre du Golf. Les années passées dans l'armée la plus "dévastatrice" du monde lui étaient difficile qu'il décida de s'orienter vers sa passion :La musique.
Le succès de shaggy commence en 1993 lorsqu' il sort son 1er album "Pure Pleasure" avec comme hit, le morceau "Oh Carolina" qui devint l'un des meilleurs morceaux en Angleterre. Cette même chanson " Oh Carolina" fût aussi classé 1er dans le classement Hit-parade de 9 autres pays d'europe, et 11 d'afrique et aussi, présent partout où le Reggae se vendait.
En 1995, il refait surface dans les classements Hit parade avec le single "In The Summertime" et surtout "Boombastic" qui a été titré disque d'OR aux Etas Unis en 1995.
En 1996 Shaggy gagne le prix du meilleur album reggae de l'année décerné par Grammy Awards. Récement Shaggy nous a fait dancer avec ses superbes chansons que vous connaissez bien: "It Wasnt Me" et "No Angels" que les chaînes de télévision ne cessent de montrer les clips. Aux fans qui lui demandaient pourquoi il chante toujours à propos des relations amoureuses, il a répondu: " J'écris plus à propos des relations amoureuses car je ne suis pas là pour prêcher! ".
Aux dernières nouvelles, Shaggy a fait association avec un grand présentateur anglais appelé Ali G. Ali G et Shaggy ont même sorti un morceau ensemble en mars 2002, disponible pour l' angleterre et la Jamaïque uniquement.
